No cold calling

We do not buy lists and we do not ring businesses out of the blue.

Our complaints procedure

No win no fee

Free initial review. We work on a no win no fee basis; the exact fee is discussed and agreed in writing on a case by case basis.

How our fees work

The commercial energy market is one of the few places in British business where a substantial sum can be taken from a customer, over several years, without ever appearing on an invoice. Commission is added to the unit rate, collected by the supplier, and passed back to the broker. The customer sees one number and has no way of separating it out.

That arrangement is not unlawful in itself. Brokers do real work and are entitled to be paid for it. The problem is disclosure. Where a business was led to believe a service was free, or was never told in any usable form what it was paying, the law has increasingly little patience for the argument that a generic clause in the supplier's terms was enough.

We work through contracts, bills and sales correspondence to establish what was disclosed and what was not, obtain the commission data from suppliers, and quantify the difference. Where the numbers do not justify pursuing a matter, we say so at the outset rather than take it on and hope.

How we are paid

The initial review is free. Where we take a matter forward we work on a no win no fee basis, at a percentage agreed in writing before anything starts. There is no upfront payment, search fee or administration charge, and if nothing is recovered you owe us nothing.

What we are not

We are not a firm of solicitors and we do not hold ourselves out as one. Where a matter requires litigation we work alongside specialist solicitors who conduct the case. We are also not a regulator: if your complaint is about billing, metering or supply, the Energy Ombudsman is the right route and we will tell you so.

How we work

Four commitments

  • We turn work away

If the sums are small, the disclosure was adequate, or the contracts are out of time, we will tell you rather than take a case on speculatively.

  • No cold calling

We do not buy lists and we do not ring businesses out of the blue. If someone claiming to be us has called you unprompted, it was not us.

  • Written assessments

You get our view of the merits, the likely value and the weaknesses in writing, before you decide whether to proceed.

  • Plain arithmetic

Every figure we give you can be traced back to your consumption, your contracted rate and the supplier's commission data.
